Oh my Lily, I have read this so many times and cry each time given its relevance to me. I need to hug you tightly so much for writing this which just absolutely helps me so much. Funny how a simple email can really affect someone? This has absolutely rocked my "soul" and I am still needing to re read it, digest it and accept its content. Wow! Fecking amazing 100% Thank you so much, Rachel xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You seem to always write about what’s on my mind at the time, that’s crazy!
I currently struggle letting go of the fact that the people I live with have different views on how much we should heat the house. I’d like to heat less to save costs but they find it too cold, yet the bill is split in half which seems unfair to me and I’m currently very much struggling to let go of this.
Haha, someone else messaged me privately saying the same thing! I guess we're all tapped into one thought process! :)
That's a really interesting example, thanks for sharing. I'm wondering, do you see any useful outcome by clinging onto your beliefs around fairness etc? Ie. do you think your housemates might change their minds?
That’s a good question and I don’t think that clinging onto the beliefs around fairness is helping me, however I value and prioritise fairness so much, because it ties together with respect and appreciation for each other, which are qualities that are absolutely crucial to me in any kind of relationship. This is why I don’t want to let go of it. Even though at the same time I’d love to, because clinging to it is exhausting. These kind of situations are very difficult. I don’t know how we find the balance between rightfully demanding respect, while on the other hand, keeping our inner peace.
I can definitely relate to that. For me it stems a bit from the belief we (all!) hold that we think people should behave in line with what we think is important/what we value/how we interpret values... and when we find that other ppl have different belief systems we struggle to accept that they think/feel/behave differently. Everyone wants to convert everyone etc :)
This is very true! And sometimes we will all have situations where we have to simply agree to disagree. Only difficult if a decision has to be made apart from that, this is where it’s not as simple anymore 😅

100% that's where the complexity lies!
